Always on the sunny side (even when it's about to rain)
Ahh, M and I made huge progress with Mt. Mulchy today, despite my forbodings of a rain out. Using the mulch scooper made things move much more quickly, so M filled the wheelbarrow, then I took it and dumped it while he filled up a trashcan strapped to our dolly. I returned, took the dolly, and so forth. (Note: wheelbarrowing up a slope, even a slight one, is murder on the hamstrings. Hauling a dolly behind you is rough on the traps and the shoulder.) We probably went through at least half of the remaining pile today, then covered it with plastic in preparation for the cold front tonight. (Cold front! My two favorite words!) After that, I just wasn't quite ready to stop, though very sore. I raked out the dumped mulch -- very satisfying to cover large swathes of bare ground. Then, because I was just itching to have someplace to plant, I did a little reworking of the former veggie garden and planted my new Belinda's Dream rose. Ahh, so nice to finally plant something! I've been so patient, really I have. And I figured the coming rain would really water in the rose good. Now to find a companion rose for the opposite bed (it's the one semi-formal area of the garden) that can take a bit more shade...
