Horse puckey

I found a stable nearby on Old Spicewood Springs that would let me come get some manure for my garden. But I felt kinda shy about going...I mean, scrounging free poop, doesn't that make you some kind of serious whack job? But it's free, and I have lots of empty beds to fill and no money to have good topsoil and compost hauled in. Necessity is the mother of humility. So, I corralled (heh) a friend from the GardenWeb forums to go with me. It wasn't scary at all! Just a bunch of amazing horses standing around snuffling, and a big pile of basically already broken-down manure that didn't really stink or anything. The people were really nice and said "oh, gosh, please come and take as much as you like, anytime!" And I liked being around the horses and the old barn dog. Horses are like aliens or elves or something. They stand around all freaky-like, with their big intelligent eyes and their insanely graceful bodies. I keep expecting horses to look at me with grave pity for my clumsy two-legged, squatty-bodied frame. But they don't. They just snuffle at you and let you admire them, in a really generous way. (And give you poop. Can't forget that.) Oh, I planted one rose bush on Friday. Two more to go. Aren't I brave?
