Happy Spring Festivus!
Mike and I went to the Zilker Garden Festival last weekend, which is practically a holiday in my world. I just have so much fun, wandering from booth to booth, looking at all the little plants and hunting for bargains and treasures (or both). I wore my "I Love Dirt" shirt, for goodness' sake. I'm a nerd. That said, I came home with some goodies: -- Succulents for pots on the patio (haworthia, agave "bovicornus" AKA "cow horn agave"), and some sedum -- A brugmansia to go with the datura. We should have Angel's Trumpets aplenty this summer! -- A baby bay tree -- A lime tree to grow in a pot (Take that, Jean with your Meyer lemon abundance!) -- 3 butterfly iris (dietes) for the front beds -- An heirloom tomato to try plus a good cherry-style for everyday eating -- A large metal tuteur just to stand around a look cool, for only $14 We wandered around for 3 hours at the gardens. There's actually a beautiful semi-Asian garden space, with waterfalls and bamboo groves, just dripping with wisteria. I had no idea it was there! I imagine it is cool and grotto-like in the summer... The columbine here at home is blooming its fool head off, as is the salvia and my tiny patch of bluebonnets. However, I fear the pomegranates are dead. My friend Merredith from the nursery says he thinks they got a bad batch and not to worry, he'd swap them out for something else. It's either that, or that spot is cursed. I'm thinking rose of Sharon for my next attempt...
