Oh, tomatoes!
Last night we had our first big tomato tasting festival of the season. Heavenly! We had the first jaune negib (bright yellow, fresh tomato taste, very little acid or aftertaste), green zebra (perhaps a bit premature, but citrus-y and good), some grape-y Juliets and one that I can't remember. Plus LOTS of basil, a little homegrown onion, crusty bread, and some mozzarella to round it all out. Delicious! I have two bowls full of almost-ripe tomatoes for this weekend, including the long-awaited brandywine. The tomato plants are now over my head -- this from the wee seeds Mike started so patiently back in February. How magical! Oh, and the big Dr. Seuss-ical crinum is getting ready to bloom en masse. Every other year, it's been one or two at a time, but I see 5-6 stalks getting ready to shoot up out there. Anticipation!
