Tapdancing on the Titanic
There are a precious few weekends left before the Season of Hell begins... It's already here in the afternoons, but some mornings are still tolerable. I made good use of them this weekend. 2 days in a row without having to work, praise be to Allah! I went off to Whittlesey Landscape Supply (bravely, as I'd never been there before) to get some flagstone to top off the gravel pathway in front so it's easier to walk on. There I was, moi in my little Subaru, kind of intimidated. But it was such fun! You drive your car up on this giant truck weigh station, they buzz you down, then you load up with the rock you want and weigh again. The difference is your purchase. Fun! I started with 400lbs or so of Oklahoma patio limestone (12 cents a lb, not bad!) and I had such fun scraping off the gravel and puzzling the limestone together that I went back for more. It's going to make a huge difference in the walkway, which has been a pain to trudge through for the last year since we built it. I got the first two steps done and have a little stone leftover. Unfortunately, it'll have to wait until I can go back next weekend to get more stone. And that's the beauty of it -- it's a small, manageable project that can be completed in stages, delivering the thrill of accomplishment in just a couple of hours. MUCH more satisfying than the very long process of building the new 100 foot bed out back, which just keeps dragging on as I don't have time to get to the stables for manure, collect cardboard for the bottom layer, pile it all up, then go back out for mulch to top it off with to keep the weeds down, and the bermuda keeps growing anyway...and...and... YEESH! I think I'll stay inside! Also, I must confess that I am decidedly ungirly when it comes to throwing around stone. I love it! I'm sore but so pleased at myself. Grr! Bring on the boulders!

I think that's the same name they called the stone I picked out for a short path off the driveway. You're right that part was kind of fun. The hard part was scraping off the grass to make a space for the gravel and stone.
If you have to do any digging better do it soon while the ground is soft from all this rain.
Hi,
I added my email address to the "profile". I would love to see the pictures of your coneflowers.
