By the way

So far, the plastic I put down two weeks ago does seem to be working. The grass beneath it is definitely yellowing and dying back. And the hottest time of the year is on its way! (Go, greenhouse effect!) Also, I've been using horticultural vinegar with orange oil on weeds. It isn't a permanent kill, but it does get the top growth really well and if you are persistant (obstinate, stubborn) you can get it all eventually. I'm not a perfect organic gardener, but research is showing a link between Round-Up and the kind of cancer that killed my Dad, uncle and grandmother (in addition to pesticides). We just don't know enough about glyposate (the active ingredient) and I don't want to make things any worse in the world if I can help it. So, get you some vinegar and put down the Round-Up for a while.

Hi, I've only read a couple of your posts and am enjoying so far. I'm trying to start a garden blog too, but live in Az so there's not much stuff to post right now, just trying to keep the plants alive...Anyway, I read this post and had to comment about Round-up. There's a little plot of dirt in the front of my house and I pulled out the grass and put down piles of newspaper, and it still came back! Without watering. Sadly, I finally had to cave. I asked my brother in law about when I could re-plant, and he said, what did you use? TO make a long story short, I may have used something that makes the dirt sterile so NOTHING will grow there now. I'll just have to wait and see! BTW, I found you off a link from Lopies journal...keep up the good work! --Elaine (whatjdid.blogspot.com)
