Waiting for tomatoes
One of the most fun, most painful aspects of spring gardening is waiting on your first tomato... The big Juliet cluster tomato we bought back at the end of April has had fruit on it for a month now, and we just keep waiting for them to ripen. The babies Mike started from seed (Brandywine, Green Zebra and Marvel Stripe) have begun to bloom a little bit. Another heirloom (Jaune Negib) is alllllmooooost fruiting. You can almost taste them. The leaves smell like summer. But you still have to wait. It's gonna be a summer of caprese salads and pesto, with 9-10 tomato plants and a ton of basil. Mmmmm. Oh, and the onions are about to bloom. They look like alien pods. Too cool.
